Thanks, Bruce. Your information was helpful. The father, Terrell C. White, a physician, was also in trouble with the provost. He posted a $2,000 bond and took the oath, apparently to facilitate his release. As I stated earlier, it appears the entire family was banished from the state. They were all near Pocahontas in Randolph County, Ark., by the time of the 1870 census, though several returned to Wayne County at a later time. I should receive the national archives copies I've ordered in a few days, but these will not include a record of the alleged pardon. The archives says such a record does not exist. Cletis
