Re: Pleasant Evans
In Response To: Pleasant Evans ()

John Asbury (my 3g granduncle) was married to Mary (Polly) Evans, the daughter of Pleasant L. Evans of Howard County, MO.

A passed down family story states that Pleasant Evans (an elderly man) was shot down on his porch by Union militia in July 1862 due to his southern stance. He lingered for 12 hours before dying. He begged his sons not to join the Confederates, but three of them did.

I was told that there is a mention in the Ralls Co. History book in regard to this and it says something to the effect that the father of Francis Marion Evans was taken from his home and taken 200 yards down the road and shot.

In the Boone County history book, page 484, it gives a semi-roster of recruits for the CSA 9th MO Infantry. Among those listed are Thomas Evans and Howard Evans.

This site is a roster of the 9th MO Infantry which lists James Evans and Thomas B. Evans as members.

Pleasant L. Evans’ Howard County, MO probate was in 1866, but it doesn’t say much.

I do not know of a son of Pleasant L. Evans also named Pleasant, but then again I am not an Evans researcher. The only children I know are: Mary, James, Francis Marion, John, George, Thomas, and William.

There was a 33 year old Pleasant Evans living in Saline County, MO (on the west side of Howard County) in 1860 who had a son by the name of Pleasant, but I do not know if these folks were related to the elder Pleasant Evans of Howard County, MO.
