Re: Confederate Guerrilla John Land

John,

Thanks ever so much for your interest & help !!! I've been able to determine that the John Land in the report was a ancestor / relative. He was evidently killed by the Federal patrol. Genealogy work doesn't even mention a son named John even though he's in the 1860 census. I also pulled up his brief CMSR with the 8th Mo.Battalion. He was discharged in 1863 for " chronic pulmonary trouble " The John Land that rode with Quantril and later Jesse and Frank James was probably not one of mine. I did find a John Thomas Land who lived out his years in Clay County,Mo. ( the James bros home ? ) I've yet to find a service record on him anywhere. That's probably where the family lore started saying we had kin that rode with the James bros. Again thanks much !!!! I'm from East Tennessee and not that up on the " late unpleasantness " out west. Guess I'll read more on it now !!!!
