Virginia, I have also visited the Howell County sites you mention, and although it was many years ago I think I remember visiting the grave of Dabner and Mary Ann Pennington. I also went to DC and read the Provost Marshall's files for this area. in the process of developing teaching materials for high school students. Now that I hear there are Provost Marshall's records at the Missouri State Archives, I'm wondering if those are just a copy of what I saw in DC, or something more. Has anyone seen both collections, or do you otherwise know the answer to this question?
