I have been researching my son in laws family and found...Pvt. John Casinger, 24th Mo Inf, was captured at Butler, MO on April 12, 1863. He was sent to Alton/Benton Barracks on May 27th, 1863. He is listed as a confederate.

When I checked ancestery...Miles Casinger is listed in 24th Reg. MO Inf..Union.....and I found John J. Casinger..12th Reg. Ky Cal..Union But no Confederates.

Is the 24th Union or Confederate?
