Every thing I had found so far said the Casinger's were Union except the one prison record I found. In "where captured" it says Butler Mo.

I'm not sure which belongs to my son-in-law. His family is from Butler, Mo. However his great-grandpa Otis was born in Ark. I don't have the info with me today but I think Otis's father was John and Mary his mother. I'm hoping to piece the "family" together this weekend.

I have found a Miles but not a Niles! Even Otis is spelled Otaus on one census!

Thanks for your information. I didn't think of him deserting but was confused on whether or not he was Confederate or Union being that he was sent to Alton. He is not listed as being buried there.
