Re: Jefferson Barracks - Medical Center

One of the pioneers in American medicine served at Jefferson Barracks in its early years. I don't know the specifics of his service there, but Dr. William Beaumont would certainly seem deserving of some consideration in any investigation of its history. He's buried in Bellfountaine Cemetery, a fact discovered entirely by accident when I visited several years ago seeking family information. The gentleman in the office noticed that as a visitor I gave my residence as Michigan. He commented, "We get a lot of visitors from Michigan. Do you know who they come here to see?" I was admittedly surprised by the answer, which I'm sure you know without me telling. (Just an anecdote to my reply which I hope may be of some help.)
