Don-The legal procedure was to petition the Probate Court to admit a Will to probate. The Court would then issue an Order Admitting Will, followed by issuance of Letters Testamentary to the Executor named in the Will. Two additional items you may wish to check: First, there should be an Application for Letters Testamentary filed with the Will. This often, but not always, contains a statement of the decedent's heirs (which may be persons other than those named in the Will}. Second, there should be an Inventory and Appraisement, and, if the personalty or realty were auctioned, a Report of Sale. The Inventory will contain an itemized listing of all property in the estate, including personal goods. The Report of Sale often will list the items sold, the sale price of each, and the identity of the purchasers. The language you saw of "administering a will" is unusual and out of parlance for a Probate Court. It is the " estate " which is administered, whether the decedent had a Will or not. I am a little more versed on this subject than I am the War. Holler any time I can be of assistance. John Kay
