Yes, the Wauge name is very elusive, usually on Mo death indexes, census, etc. it is found as Wange, Wanze, when his widow remarried it became “Waga” on that record and we also cannot find any likely candidate in 1870 when they should already have 2 children. Of course no marriage record found for this fellow, but should be before 1867 and on 1868 map I see what may be him if difficult to be sure. Look for S. 3112 Bapt. Riviere, south of Concord School road, section 29, lot 5, next to Chas Heim. Even blown up it is hard to be sure but looks like it should be “Hy. Wauge.”
On 1870 census I found these near neighbors from the map between pages 59 and 66 of Carondelet township, Christopher Heim, Roser, Fred Wohlschlanger, etc., but nothing that appears to be Wauge, only a name that could be “John, Henry” from Hanover, but the J could also be a T or G from what I can tell? This is on page 59 line 31.
Very frustrating!
His son John Henry and his descendants used Wauge spelling, but their father is hard to trace, only this 2 EMM card so far to document this probable father and children’s 1900 census states that he was born in Hannover, where this still rare name can be found today.
I live in Seattle WA, wonder if Mo archives could make copies of this muster roll and how much I would cost?
Thanks for the help!
