The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Missouri Militia in St. Louis?

There were Fortunes involved in the Union forces in Missouri during the Civil War. Three of them were my ancestors. Stephen L. Fortune, my ggrandfather, Robert Fortune a great Uncle and John Fortune another great Uncle. mabe even Creed although he was listed as a Baptist Preacher. I believe all three of them were involved with the Calvary although I haven't looked at their papers for a while. Stephen was involved in the battle of Fredricktown and according to his pension claim was injured when thrown from his horse at that event. They came out of the Caledonia area being a Scottish settlement established by another relative. The McSpaddens. Fortune is of Scottish origin and there is a low-land village in Scotland named Fortune. I don't have a Mark Fortune that I can find but I would bet that there's a cousin or two in there somewhere. If you want to email me maybe I can help find more family information.
