Capt John Wallis, Wallace of Randolph County

Please help us learn more about Capt. John Wallis of Stevens' 22d TX Cavalry, Co H, who lived in Randolph County for the 1850 census.

Evidence points toward "Capt. John Wallis of the 22d TX Cav." as being th "J. Wallis" cited as "J. Wallis' horse wounded" in the Oct 13, 1864 Battle of Elm Creek report by Lt. Nathan F. Carson of Co D, Bourland's Regt. Most of Company D was from Whitesboro, Grayson Co TX area, although Lt. Carson, of Brazos Co TX, had been in Bourland's Regt since before Aug 1863. About one-third of Bourland's men were older men who had been officers earlier in the War.

John Wallis, b-1812 NC, who enrolled in the 22d TX Cav-1st Indian Regt, Co H, at age 49 as a Capt/Capt on Dec 13, 1861 in Whitesboro, Grayson Co TX, then proceeded to enroll men in Company H, including Benjamin M. Wallis (age 22 MO) and George W. Wallis (age 18 MO) in Whitesboro on Dec 13, 1861. These Wallis boys may have be his nephews, but not his ch. Below are the censuses where this "Capt John Wallis" can be found.
