John,

In your research were you able to find out what happened to "Old Sac" after the war? It was a long time ago, 20 plus years, that it was on display at the Lexington battlefield, but I may be wrong. There apparently was a total of 10 cannon given to the Missourians after the Mexican war, all 6 pounders, and by accounts, were not viewed as useful pieces even at that time (hence I suspect the willingness to give the Missourians these cannon as trophies of war). Some of these appear to have been used in the Kansas-Missouri war prior to the official hostilities. Some appear to have been in the Liberty Arsenal and were captured there. Others were used for Forth of July and other events in various locations throughout the state. With this in mind, there could be others that went by the nickname "Ole Sac". (there are two I know of- Bledsoe's and one in Kansas on display in Lawrence).

John, not sure if you or anyone else can help on this one, but General D.R. Atchison’s report of the Battle of Blue Mills (Liberty) September 17, 1861- quoted in the History of Lafayette County page 345 states that Captain Kelly had a four gun battery. Does anyone have any information about this battery, where it formed, and where it got the four guns (Liberty arsenal as well?) Also, I would like more information on this fight, preferably first hand accounts, so any help there would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
