Ferdinand Zellner

We would like to get this man a VA tombstone and need help with some evidence of service in the CSA. The below was sent to me today. His grand daughter had a newspaper article saying she knew him and he was a CSA vet. 1910 census says he stated he was and was listed as such in a CW vets listing in our local paper not long after that. Who all got captured in St. Louis on the date below??
Trying to find out if he served in the military in the war. Who all were captured in St. Louis on the date below and I thought the town was in Union Hands at this time?

""""Hello,

I came across an online listing of Ferdinand Zellner being described as a Confederate citizen being "captured" at St. Louis on June 1, 1864, and recalled you had been interested in finding out more about his wartime service, if he in fact did serve.

The link is on Ancestry.com at:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&MSAV=0&msT=1&gss=angs-c&gsln=zellner&pcat=CIVILWAR&h=951366&recoff=2&db=CivilWarPOW&indiv=1

It shows a page from Selected Records of the War Department Relating to Confederate Prisoners of War, 1861-1865; (National Archives Microfilm Publication M598, Roll 72); War Department Collection of Confederate Records, Record Group 109; National Archives, Washington, D.C.; p 223. If it had given a regiment or rank, I would feel safer in saying he was in the Confederate Army, but this seems to give more credence that he likely served for some period in Confederate service.

He was a music Prof. and wrote the Fayetteville (AR) Polka in 1856. Google "fayetteville polka" and you can hear the tune.
