Do you have access to the Marshals records from the Montgomery and Callaway Counties?
The ggfather of my wife Dr Larkin Wesley Hunt and his uncle Dr Lewis Howell Callaway were Confederates. Dr Hunt lived in Calwood, near Moore's Mill and following the family legend "he enlisted as a surgeon in the Confederate Army. He was in the battle of Moore's Mill" in 1862, perhaps as a neighbour. After the war he lived in Rhineland were the gfather of my wife was born.
During the CW Dr Lewis Callaway lived in Rhineland. The family story says "during the Civil War, the Home Guard so molested Dr. Lewis H. Callaway, ... a doctor in the Confederate Army, that he sold his house and farm ... and moved to St. Louis" By now I didn't found a document to attest the veracity of the story. Are they in the Provost Marshals records?
