Bruce, my apology. I put you on the spot there. I was talking about modern day "Williamsville" just down Black River from Mill Springs, which, by the way, is the good Mr. Leeper's "back yard". Camp Talbot was probably a larger than normal "picket" on the main road to Greenville, which was at that time held by the southern forces. Using the clues that were provided in the OR report I believe that Camp Talbot was just down river from the present day village of Mill Springs. As the river would have been difficult to ford in this area, the lack of comment about a river crossing is indicative of a location on the east side. Besides, part of the object of the Fed. patrol was to ascertain troop strength in the area of Greenville. Greenville was farther to the east situated on the St. Francis River, another reason not to cross to the west side of Black River.
