Very well summarized John. It would have taken me several pages to tell what you told in a couple of paragraphs. You also brought out some details that need to be explored in further depth. I would like to know more about the Barnes clan from Liberty township. They are on my list of families of interest. There was a rather large group of Barnes' in Reynolds County, as there is today. Barnesville (now Ellington) was named after Thomas Barnes who had moved there about 1835-37 from the St. Francis County area. He had sons supporting both sides of the conflict and the Union supporting faction had to move their families out of the area during the war years. It has been my thought that the two Barnes groups were probably one clan. After the war a group of allied families, primarily comprised of southern supporting Barnes, Copelands and Bakers moved their families from Reynolds and Shannon Counties to Bell County, Texas.
