I can find no David EnGart living in MO in the 1860 census, but David EnYart (b.1805, KY) is living in Daviess, MO. Enyart is often spelled Engart or Enyard.
In "The Twentieth Century History of Carroll County, MO" (Turner/Clark) it is stated that "Espousing the cause of the Confederacy, he (David Enyart) enlisted in Co E, third MO Inf, CSA, and not long after entering the service was killed on the bloody battle field of Wilson Creek."
There was a David Enyart in Co E, Third MO Inf, but that was David H. Enyart (b. 1842) who was the nephew of the elder David. The younger D. Enyart clearly survived the war according to all evidence. I can find no trace of any other David Enyart/Engart/Enyard in the Third MO. Infantry although Silas A. Enyart (David H.'s brother) is listed.
Does anyone have any other information on Capt. David Engard/Enyart that would support my theory that he was, indeed, David Enyart (not Engart)?
