Lloyd W. Daniels

Lloyd W. Daniels, b.1840 in Reynolds County, MO
He died a POW in Albany, New York in 1864.

I pulled his PM file today. The PM file says he had been a Pvt. in the 3rd MO Cav. I have not finished transcribing yet but this is part of what I read.

He was given a military trial, found guilty of returning to his unit after having taken the oath, and also found guilty of robbing three discharged union soldiers of their clothing. He was sentenced to hang and then had his sentence commuted to five years in prison. In the comments section of the PM examination form the PM examiner said “the worst man I had examined”. The documents state that he had two accomplices in the robbery, a M L Adams and Allen Copeland.

Lloyd had three brother-in-laws named Lott, Richard and Cary Webb. All three were sent to Alton, only Richard came home. According to family lore, another brother-in-law, James Thornton was killed in 1862. I have found no record of him.

If anyone has any further information about any or all of these men I would appreciate hearing about them. If anyone is interested I will share copies of the documents I have and when I am finished transcribing you are welcome to the transcriptions.
