Thank you, Jim. I did obtain the foler of letters. My father had transcribed several of them from the old hand-writing to typed versions several years ago; but I was glad I ordered the file because it contained a few letters that I had not seen. I appreciate your information on Captain James G. Russell. I will try and look into that further. I know Orsino was in Spring Hill, Livingston County when the war started. His wife somehow ended up going to Versailles, Morgan County, around this time to live with Orsino's parents. I am not sure whether he took her there and then enlisted--which then could have been anywhere or whether he enlisted in Spring Hill (probably with Wililam Y. Slack). I sure wish they would have kept better records. There was a statement in one of the books I looked at that said some of the units took muster in the morning and that evening they used the paper to make bullets for the next day's battle.
