Help With 150th CW Anniv. in St. Louis

Forum,

Lynnea Magnuson, the executive in charge of the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum in downtown St. Louis, is asking for assistance from Civil War devotees in the St. Louis region to help her prepare for the Civil War Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) in St. Louis between 2012 and 2015. The title of her project will be "Freedom's Gateway: St. Louis and the Civil War," while the specific theme is "The Soldier's Experience." She elaborated by saying that she is seeking your help to explain or demonstrate "answering the call: Who fights, how they fight, what they wear, what they carry, what they do when not engaged...and what it all means to them." Here is your chance to help interpret to the public what may otherwise be dry, meaningless history to many and help them visualize this part of our history that means so much to all of you who read, study, and research this fascinating topic. The hub of the CW Sesquicentennial in St. Louis will be the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum located at 1315 Chestnut Street, St. Louis, MO 63103 and north of City Hall and south of the main Olive Blvd library. You could call Dr. Magnuson at (314) 622-4550 or email her at MagnusonL@stlouiscity.com with your ideas about how to present these aspects of the Civil War to the public. She is looking for resources, ideas, and people to assist her with this special event. Some of you who have not visited the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum for a long time need to pay a visit and see how she has improved this presentation of represenations of our soldiers' contributions in American wars. Some of the Civil War groups in the region may render valuable assistance here. I have no idea what kind of budget Dr. Magnuson has for this undertaking, as I didn't ask. From what I could see, Dr. Magnuson's entire staff is herself and the security guard. I see opportunities for Living History here, and many other ways to bring the CW to life. Put on your thinking caps and contact the Soldiers Memorial if you can help and contact your Civil War friends about this opportunity. I obtained her permission to post this notice.
