Interesting subject. I was doing research on a named image I own. The soldier George Washington Edwards of Wade's Battery was captured at Vicksburg. He told the Federals that he would just go home. They sent him to a prisoner of war camp in the East. He later took his parole and joined the Army of Northern Va. and was present at the surrender at Apomatix Va. and He was a native of Va. I believe many Confederate soldiers were in the same predicment from my research.
