Hoyt and the Lawrence Raid

I have developed the impression that, prior to Quantrill's raid, Redleg Hoyt had downplayed the risk of such a raid. This is based in part on Goodrich's assertion in Bloody Dawn (page 44) that Hoyt "snorted at the whole idea" of a raid on Lawrence. He references a 9/6/63 article in the Leavenworth Daily Times. Is anyone familiar with the contents of that article, or have other insights into Hoyt's role (if any) regarding Lawrence's pre-raid preparations to defend against such a raid? Thanks for any insights you can share.
