Samuel Trollinger, citizen of Reynolds County, MO was arrested and taken before the Provost Marshal at Pilot Knob, MO in late November of 1862. The charge was violation of his oath. Depositions were taken and he was sent to Myrtle Street Prison in St. Louis. Myrtle Street Prison records indicate that on March 4th 1863 Samuel Trollinger was transferred to Washington DC. In June of 1864 Elihu Shepard gave testimony concerning Samuel Trollinger’s participation in the murder of Mr. Shepard's blacksmith, Josiah Morgan. On January 8th 1865 1st Lt. William Moran of company E. 50th MO Vol. reported that a scout under Lt. Weddle to Black River killed two men by the names of Samuel Torringer (Trollinger) and James Barton.

Question, what, if any, significance should be placed on the fact that an old, notorious bushwhacker, was sent to Washington DC. From what I have read there is little doubt Samuel Trollinger was guilty as charged.

Other than the OR report by Lt. Wm. Moran I have found no other records after the Myrtle Street Prison notation about Tollinger's transfer to Washington DC. Where do I look for records of the Old Capital Prison? Is there any other prison in the DC area that I should check for records.
