Willoughby Scott Gatson

I have him enlisting Jan. 20,1862, at New London, MO, Company E, 2nd MO State Militia Cavalry and throughout their rolls is listed as a Private and as furnishing his own horse and equipment. He was mustered out at ST. Louis, MO, March 11, 1865. Other rolls show him entering March 11, 1862, at New London, MO, 37 years of age. Im one place it states, Co. E. was formed by transfer of men from Co. E, and I, II MO State Militia Cavalry. His first name is listed as Willoby, Wiloby, and Walaba.

$12. pension beginning July 17, 1890, for the disability by rheumatism, heart disease, indigestion, & varicose veins. After his death, $8. per month was given to the widow and $2. to Annie Lizzie Gatson, the only child under 16 and to be termnated when she reached 16 years of age. She drew the pension about 7 years. The widow's pension was to begin Sept. 24, 1891.

He was allowed 20 days furlough for "camp diarrhea" from Cape Girardeau, MO, Oct. 26, 1863. He had already been in the hospital 2 months.

Can anyone give me a bit more information as to where they served, if they fought in battles and such? This is my great grandfather on my father's side.

Thanks, AA
