Enlisted 20 September 1862 in Dade Co, MO by Lieutenant Wills; Present for 1862 muster; Present for 1863 muster; Present for 1864 muster; No further record

Lieutenant James Milton Wills was one of my ancestors. He enlisted in Newton County, Missouri, September 12, 1862 and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant September 12, 1862 by Col. Kearny. He was one of four brothers from Dade County, Missouri who enlisted September 12, 1862: James, Francis, John and David Wills. James Wills is mentioned several times in the Official Records, Series I, Volume 22, Part I Reports. All brothers survived the war except John Wills. Family history supports reports stating John Wills was killed in the battle at Helena, Arkansas July 4, 1863. Another family report says he was wounded at Helena and died near Searcy, Arkansas as the army withdrew from the battle.

Any additional information on the Wills brothers you may have would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Charles
