Mark:

Just another quick note, National Parak Service Files list a William T Green as part of 16th Missouri Infantry Confederate. This unit was recruited heavily from the area around Johnson and Pettis Counties. It also had a large number of losses during the war. Per Jim McGhee's excellent work the unit was paroled June 8, 1865 and sent up river via steamer from Shreveport. This could put him in St. Louis 9 days post parole jobless, with no known family connections, thus the inticement for substitution duty.

There is a William A Green of Co C, 16th MO Infantry that ends up at the Confederate Home Higginsville that does not match for a son Mary A (Craddock) Green.

The only Josiah Green in the NPS database is the same as listed in Missouri AG card file previously mentioned. Dollars to a donut he does belong the Mary Green and was Luther's half brother. His date of death matches her commments in the Provost Marshall file and the dates and age match. I would certainly look at his service record. See the offer from our list sponser at the top of page.
