In my research on the 1st Ark many of the men were Confederate draft dodgers and a Mo calvery unit actually crossed into Washington County,Ark to bring the boys over into Mo were they trained with I believe the 5th Mo Cav. Has you proably know there were over 100k White men from Southern states who served in either has USV or homeguard units. Just enter regimental histories civil war histories into you search engine.
