Re: Partisan Ranger George W. Rider

How sure are we that this George W Rider was a "partisan ranger"?

He was born in Kentucky May 16, 1807 he married Alisa Bush July 03, 1824 in Sumner, Tennessee. died December 26, 1876 in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. That makes him a bit long in the tooth to ride with Quantrill. Children are:

William Edward Rider, b. May 29, 1825, Sumner County, Tennessee, d. February 28, 1881, Ray County, Missouri.
Eliza Jane Rider, b. April 1827, Tennessee, d. December 17, 1907, Jackson County, Missouri.
Catherine Rider, b. May 1829, Tennessee, d. 1914, Independence, Jackson, Missouri.
Miley Rider, b. May 1831, Illinois, d. date unknown.
Samuel B. Rider, b. June 17, 1833, Missouri, d. November 17, 1905, Belton, Missouri.
Mary Rider, b. 1835, Missouri, d. date unknown.
John Winiard Rider, b. March 11, 1837, Missouri, d. February 12, 1907, Independence, Jackson, Missouri.
Oliver J. Rider, b. 1839, Jackson, Missouri, d. September 26, 1902, Jackson, Missouri.
Elizabeth Rider, b. 1843, Missouri, d. ?

MO SOS has Oliver in the 6 month Border Militia:

He is also listed in the 1890 Census for Austin Cass Co MO as a vet of the 14th Kansas Cav as bugler.

He also appears to have spent time in Kansas per census rolls
William Edward Rider:
1880, Camden, Ray, Missouri.
1870, Camden, Ray, Missouri.
1860, Richland, Lykins, Kansas Territory.

NPS S&S has a Geroge Rider listed with Quantrill as well as a John W/M Rider but I've nothing to confirm the person in the grave is the one listed in the file. It sort of stretches my imagination that this "George W Rider" was the George Rider of Quantill's company.

This site has an extensive survey of Lobb Cemetary and Uhlig and Houts who surveyed the cemetary in 1933 along with Warren Welch's Quantrill reunion lists do not identify this George Rider as being with Quantrill. They also record the date of death as 1876 not the current marker's 1880.
