Interesting Unit 3rd Wis Cav USV

I was doing a little web surfing on the 3rd Wis Cav. This unit spent a lot of time fighting CSA Partisan Rangers (maybe we can all live with that term?) in Mo and Ark and they also fought and inflicted defeats on Gen. Cooper and his Native American allies. One of the organisers of this regiment was James B Pond a 23 year old newpaper editor from a small town Mackeson (sp) in Wis. James Pond was described has a friend of the" Freedom Fighter" James Brown. I know Mr. Brown certainly had his fans and detractors but he did influence the actions of at least some union officers including his son who was 2nd in command of the 7th Kan. Mr. Pond apparently spoke glowingly of Mr. Brown and that may have influenced some of the 3rd Wis cav enlisted men. Lt. James Pond was awarded the Medal of Honor for singlehandily using his cannon to defend the US For at Baxter Springs Kan during Quantrills raid there. The 3rd Wis unlike the 8th Kan did not flee when they saw Quantrills men but firded there muskets and revolvers untill overrun. If anybody has more info please share it.
