On Nov 17, 1862, Jefferson Davis instructed Lt-Gen Holmes to determine if the newspaper article in regard to the ‘Palmyra Massacre’ was true. If so, he was to demand the government to turn over McNeil and if they didn’t, he was to execute the next 10 Federal officers captured.

That didn't happen, but are there any documented or rumored reprisals from the Confederates in regard to the Palmyra executions?
