Re: Was Dallas, Mo., ever burned down?

George: I saw a reference to the burning of Dallas by Union troops in a Union soldier's diary. At present I have misplaced the reference, which I copied from the internet. If memory serves me correctly, the soldier was not a member of the 13th Illinois Cavalry Regiment. I think he was an infantry soldiers that happened to be marching through Dallas and made the observation that Union soldiers had burned the town. I will see if I can find the reference in all of the stuff I have stowed away in filing cabinets. However, my wife says I have an amazing ability to "file" papers that I can never again locate,so don't count on me finding it anytime soon.
