Does the rest of the piece provide context for Kerr's September 1864 escape from Leeper, and the reference to the executions of the prisoners by Leeper? Were the two incidents tied together, or were they seperate? Leeper is infamous for a specific incident of executing prisoners in the fall of 1863 that drew the wrath of his then-regiment upon him and almost caused fellow comrades to fire upon him. In reading accounts from the Peterson papers the writers very often ramble back and forth between unrelated incidents and the entire document has to be taken into account in order to figure out the context. I am wondering if the matter referred to in the latter part of your post was Leeper's notorious executions from the fall of '63, or whether he was picking up stragglers from Price's Army....
