Who knows why Calvin wasn't allowed to leave. Probably so they could keep an eye on him, but he ended up joining back up with the Confederates. He was shot 12 times...not supposedly. I would have to dig up the book, but the account was given by the Union soldiers who killed him. He is known in the account has Blankenship. Calvin was the father of my great great grandfather, Henry, who was born after he was killed in front of his family.
