No, I rarely get back to Ellington, but I did pass through and look around about a month ago en route to Lake of the Ozarks. I thought the town looked very nice.

As for Daniel Deroy Emmons, he is first found in the 1850 census of Saint Lawrence County, New York state, age 21, a son of Levi and Rebecca Emmons. The county borders the Saint Lawrence River, hence its name, so it's not far from Canada, which is where it appears the Deroy name [French] first appears.

His other daughter in one census said he was born in Michigan. One gathers he was around for such a short time no one got to know him well!

I have completed a three-part series about Emmons and forwarded it to my brother at the Wayne County Journal-Banner in Piedmont. If you live nearby you might look for the articles in that newspaper.

Many thanks for your help.
