I am reading a great book" Fields of Blood The Praire Grove Campaign by William L Shea. This book is has good has the one on Wilsons Creek. I was suprised to learn that the 7th and 14th MSM were part of Gen Schofields expeditionary force to Ark. I thoought the idea of the MSM was to just defend Mo and if necessary chase CSA forces accross the state line and maybe now and then make a quick dash accross state lines to strike a blow such has when a MSM force made a quick dash accross the Miss to strike at some bushwackers in Ill. Its interesting that one cant read to much into terms.
