I suspect we won't ever know for sure, what made me wonder is there are several of the 82nd EMM folks whose service cards confirm their turncoat status earlier in July. Olvis is the only one that I found that specified 267 days service which from his muster in date is exactly July 17, 1864. His is the abberation in my brief hunt through the listing. Thus my question was he really a "paw-paw", a "paw-paw" want-a-be, a deserter from a unit he no longer respected, or just dumb bad luck. Certainly at that time and day his name was called up yonder.
