The Uncivil War by Robert Mackey

Robert Mackey is a major in the US Army and wries of irregular war and the Union respose to it. For some reason Mackey does not cover Mo which contained all facets of CW irregular war from Calvery raisers to Bushwackers. Mackey does cover Ark which definatly affected Mo since Ark served both has a sanctuary for Mo CSA irregulars and also has a source of recruits for both the CSA and Union both of whom fought quite a bit in Mo. Mackay has good info on Col. Harrison of the 1st Ark who may of been ahead of his time in fighting irregulars. Mackay makes a strong argument that Gen Hindman and Gen. Halleck used the French experience of fighting irregulars in Spain and Russia in the early 1800s has a template for the CW has well has the writings of Gen. Clausewitz and Jomini . I was suprised to learn that some historians considered the CSA irregulars has proto Moaists . I don't see the connection but its an interesting point of view. This book has a lot of info on CSA irregular warfare and is very well researched its a good read.
