I do not find a John C, but here are two John Dickersons.

John Dickerson, age 25, Private, Company B, Jeffers' Regiment, Missouri Cavalry,* enlisted August 17, 1862 at Cape Girardeau, County, Mo. by William R. Jeffers, transferred to Company D, October 5, 1862, detailed as a Herdsman August 5, 1863, no further records

* Known as the 8th Regiment Missouri Cavalry

The regiment was organized in late 1862 with men who had served in the
Mo. State Guard. It served in J. C. Porter's, C. Greene's,
J. B. Clark's brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department.

It took part in Marmaduke's expedition into Missouri, fought at Helena
and Bayou Fourche and Price's 1864 Missouri expedition.

It lost six men with Marmaduke, one at Helena and 29 during Price's
expedition. It disbanded prior to the June 2, 1865 surrender of the
Trans-Mississippi Department.

The battery, also called the 3rd Battery, was formed in 1862 with men
from Laclede and Audrain counties. The unit was assigned to Parson's,
S. P. Burns' brigade and then W. D. Blocher's artillery battalion,
Trans-Mississippi Department. It fought at Cane Hill, lost one killed,
eight wounded and three missing at Helena and fought at Jenkins' Ferry.
The battery had 43 men in May 1862 and 82 fit for duty in July 1863. At
the end of the war it was at Camden, Ark. and surrendered in June 1865.
