You may wish to place your query in the "Iowa in the Civil War Message Board," part of this series.

I was not aware the 14th Iowa Infantry captured a flag at Pilot Knob, but 18 soldiers of Company H of the 14th were up on the mountain with the 3rd Cavalry Missouri State Militia, and the 47th Missouri Infantry mixing it up with some Confederates. According to BG Thomas Ewing's report of this in the "Official Reports" series 1, vol. 41, part 1, p. 448, General Marmaduke's division was fighting on the mountain with those men, so a flag captured there would belong to one of Marmaduke's units.

My specialty is the irregulars not these regular outfits, so I am outside of my field a bit trying to answer this question.
