Has we know by 1864 the Union and to some extent the CSA paid renlistmen bonuses or bounties to keep veterns or even to induce new recruits since the glamor of entering military service had faded a bit. Did the MSM resort to bonuses to motivate veterans to renlist or encourage new enlisties? I dont know if the other USV units in Mo did the same . I do know per the book "3 1/2 years in the army or the history of the Second Colorado's" the 2nd Colo could not be induced to renlist in late 1864.
