Re: Father Abram Ryan, Poet Priest of the Confeder

John R,

Thank you for the information on the movement of the records from St. Vincents Seminary in Cape Girardeau, to Perryville. In those records, I am sure that there is information concerning Father Abram Ryan, the Poet Priest of the Confederacy. However, I would say that he is unknown in southeast Missouri, among Catholics, as well as perhaps, among historians, as I can find no recent local writings about him. There is no commemoration, statue, plaque, etc. of this important man who had such strong Missouri connections, having moved to St. Louis when he was a lad, attended Christian Brothers there, studied for the priesthood in Perryville, and was on the rolls at St. Vincents Seminary in Cape Girardeau. It would be intersting to see if he, also, conducted Mass at Old St. Vincents down by the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau. I wonder if those records would, also, be in Perryville.
