Re: Burning of Barnesville, Reynolds Co.
I never ran across the town being burned while the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry was there, but I did run across quit a bit of info on Barnesville while they were there including fortifying it, which supports Gerald Angel's long fought battle to have the fortifications recognized by the Missouri Deptmart of Conservation...Gerald took dad and I up there to see them. In September of 1862, most of the First Wisconsin had just returned from their foray into Arkansas, but some were left behind. I have a copy of the regimental returns when the regiment was there in January of '63....but I have not found mention of the community being burned, I'll check again and see what I come up with. That doesn't mean that it wasn't, just offering info in regards to what I have been researching. I have Gerald's number, he'd be more than willing to share anything he has, and it is quit extensive.
