Re: 6th or "Southwest" MO Cav. CSA

My ancestor Jasper Scott was part of company E of the 6th Cav MO CSA. His index card muster sheet showed him deserting on a raid to Missouri on Jan 12, 1863, four days after the Springfield battle. After reading through the 2008 postings about desertions, Groff's court martial, and sickness, I am wondering if you can shed further light. Do you know what raid he was part of on Jan 12 when he deserted?

FYI Jasper was captured Jan 16, 1863 in Polk Co, Missouri. He died in April in the hospital at Gratiot. His brother Martin Van Buren Scott died of yellow fever near Yellvill around the same time. I can't find a military record for him.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
