You mean "thong" trees, right? I have seen plenty that were called as such, most of which are way too young to have even been possible. Some folks believe that they pointed to water; others think of trails, which is more likely. (We live in a humid terrain, and anyone who could not find water in the Ozarks probably failed to survive.)

But the military road would have been well marked anyway, and it still exists in most places.

What I am doing is trying to record and describe and photograph locales. Haven't figured out where to go with it from there....
