Bruce, Cole County (Jefferson City) is only about 10 miles from where they lived in Callaway County. But I agree, can't see why they would have enlisted in Miller County. I'm in the process of ordering the Provost Marshal Papers and hopefully they will tell us more; but whether there is any way to connect the papers to the 1st Reg MO Home Guard is another thing. The Archives only has some of the papers digitalized so I wait from 4-8 weeks for those that I need and they only allow 1 order at a time.
