The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Dead and Wounded from the McKinney 1862 Skirmi

Jay,

No, I don't know where you may obtain that information, but here are a couple of ideas.

First, you might want to place a query including pertinent details in "The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board," as they seem very responsive.

Secondly, you may wish to contact the local genealogical and/or history society in the county where that skirmish took place. Local people were better about treating wounded and dead, and kept records often better than both armies, especially for any graves. Use the present-day county designations to perform this inquiry, since, according to Dollarhide's 1987 "Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses 1790-1920" although the county designations in north Arkansas changed after the Civil War, they became smaller instead of larger. If you are unsure about the place where this fight took place, use my first suggestion and see if those Arkansas folks can pin it down with county designation and local place names for you. Local history can be a wonderful tool.
