This letter is describing the fight of Aug 24, 1864 at Ashley's Station and Jones' Hay station. The forts were made of logs, mud and hay. Shelby attacked while federal troops were baling hay on the prairie next to the Memphis & Little Rock Railroad. Lieut Warren Stone was in Shanks' Regt., his unit was the 12th Mo Cavalry CS, If I remember correctly.
