Back when I was in grade school I went to a 1st to 8th grade one room school with some Indian boys,all 4 brothers -they an I tryed wild grape vines,-yuk--- but also dried moss that grows on rocks,tree's finding moss the sun dried out so it will burn, we used paper brown bag,to roll
smokes, had a pipe for tobacco --should I find a tin of Velvet, I was in the 2nd grade then-- and near 70 now.
I bet they found a way to substitute tobacco/coffee in the Civil war,good luck in finding it!
