Re: Controversy re: David Guitar, Columbia, Mo.

I live just down the road from the Guitar house and was doing some research just to learn about it and it's former inhabitants and came across your post. I'm not nitpicking or trying to prove anyone wrong, just trying to find truth. Almost everything I have found about David Guitar says he was an officer in the Confederate Army. Hell the cemetery where he is buried even says he was a Confederate soldier (on Broadway in Columbia, it's cool if you've never seen it). Are you sure you're not thinking of his brother? I'm no Einstein but I would think someone who was an officer in the Confederate Army would in fact be a southern sympathizer wouldn't you? Also, how could someone who was on the Confederate side be allowed in the local Union militia? I suppose it's possible that Mr. Sapp did all the editing on the pages I came across, but I don't believe that the cemetery would get it wrong but who knows. Also, and I don't know much about what people found socially acceptable in 1862 but I wouldn't think a guy who owned slaves would be down with what the Union was trying to do? Just my two cents. Thanks for provoking my brain and take care!
