Re: Contents of Special Order 126, 1864?

Kirby,

And another researcher who comes to my rescue often! Sure, and I will keep it on topic. The MO Adj. Gen.'s Annual Report for 1864 on pages 588-9 lists a number of company grade officers of the 61st EMM dismissed pointedly "vacated by Special Order, 126, 1864" among many, many others in many other regiments:
Company B: Captain David Guitar, 1LT S. F. Connelly, 2LT William T. Anderson ( all its officers);
Company C: 2LT Overton E. Harris;
Company D: Captain James M. Ellis under "accounted for" says "resigned May 3, 1864," 1LT John L. Hickman, 2LT Thomas M. Field (both SO126);
Company F: Captain William Hunter, 1LT John A. Fisher, 2LT William Seymore (all its officers) ;
Company G: 2LT Garland M. Sims (leaving only one officer in company);
Company H: 1LT Preston H. Owings, 2LT F. F. Sheppard;
Company I: Captain Joseph L. Sterns, 1LT R. E. Sappington, 2LT W. T. Sapp (clean sweep, all of 'em);
Company K: 1LT A. H. Conley, 2LT Joshua Fenton (all of the company's officers);
Company L: Captain William Madden, 1LT J. M. Dougherty, 2LT Charles S. Yount (all of the company's officers);

Perhaps it would be better if I just list the few 61st EMM company grade officers NOT taken away by S.O. 126;
Company A: Captain Hubbard Williams, 1LT Thomas J. Arnold, 2LT John G. Strade (all three vacated positions at EMM's end, 12 March 1865);
Company C: Captain Samuel M. Cully, 1LT Miles J. Henley (both vacated positions at EMM's end, 12 March 1865;
Company D: Captain James m. Ellis (as I wrote above, he resigned 3 May 1864);
Company E: Captain T. G. Harris, 1LT John Q. Orr (both vacated 12 Mar 1865), 2LT James T. Harris (promoted to Regt Adj. 7 Apr 1864);
Company G: Captain Martin E. Swift (vacated on 12 Mar 1865);
Company H: Captain Benjamin P. Ritchie (promoted major 7 April 1864);
Company M: Captain Hiram Cornell (vacated 12 Mar 1864); 2LT David M. Dunlap ("resignation accepted by S.O. 139, 1864").

See what you can make of these results.
